Custom vocabulary for speech recognition

Give unusual words a better chance of being understood.

General speech models cannot know every person, product, framework, acronym, or invented name in your work. Elokin lets you organize vocabulary by category and import complete term lists instead of entering every word manually.

What custom vocabulary can improve

Vocabulary gives the recognition workflow additional context for terms that appear repeatedly in your dictation. Good candidates include personal names, client or product names, acronyms, libraries, frameworks, database technologies, medical or legal terminology, and project-specific words.

It is not a spelling replacement system and cannot force an exact result every time. Think of it as a focused hint that helps the speech model choose among plausible interpretations.

Organize terms into useful categories

Elokin includes separate categories for General, Development, Company, and Custom vocabulary. The bundled development list covers many common languages, frameworks, tools, and platforms. The other default dictionaries provide a useful starting point without containing personal NBCH-specific information.

Categories make maintenance easier: clear or replace the terms for one context without losing everything else. You can also empty all vocabulary or restore every factory dictionary from Settings.

Import a vocabulary file

  1. Create a UTF-8 .txt file containing one complete term per line.
  2. Choose the destination category and whether to Merge or Replace.
  3. Review the imported list, remove noise, and test it in natural sentences.

Merge keeps existing entries and adds only new unique terms. Replace overwrites that category, which is useful when the text file is your authoritative glossary.

Keep multi-word names together on one line—for example, “App Store Connect” or “Hugging Face”—rather than splitting every word into a separate entry.

Build a vocabulary that stays effective

  • Add terms you actually dictate, not entire dictionaries copied from the web.
  • Include the form you expect in the transcript, including capitalization.
  • Keep homophones and easily confused terms especially focused.
  • Test terms inside full sentences rather than speaking them in isolation.
  • Remove obsolete project names so the list stays relevant.
  • Back up a valuable glossary as a simple text file.

A smaller, relevant list is usually easier to understand and maintain than a huge collection of unrelated words.

Frequently asked questions

What format should an imported vocabulary file use?+

Use a UTF-8 plain-text file with one term per line. Empty lines are ignored and duplicates are removed.

What is the difference between Merge and Replace?+

Merge adds imported terms while preserving existing unique entries. Replace removes the current category contents and uses the imported terms instead.

Can I restore the original dictionaries?+

Yes. Elokin can restore all factory vocabulary categories without requiring the app to be reinstalled.

Does adding a word guarantee recognition?+

No. Vocabulary provides context, but recognition also depends on the model, pronunciation, microphone quality, surrounding speech, and competing words.
