Catch the sentence before the moment disappears.
Dictation gives writers another way into the page. Speak a rough paragraph, explore an argument, capture dialogue, or record an outline while the idea is moving—then revise it in the writing tool you already prefer.
Where dictation helps writers most
Voice is not automatically better than typing. It is useful when the obstacle is getting language out quickly: a first draft, a scene idea, a personal note, an explanation, or a transition you can hear more easily than you can type.
Because Elokin is a menu bar utility, the destination remains your own editor. Dictate, release, and paste the result into Notes, Pages, Word, Scrivener, a browser editor, or any other writing environment that accepts text.
Separate drafting from editing
- Speak the idea without stopping to perfect individual sentences.
- Choose Raw for voice and texture or Polished for cleaner structure.
- Paste the draft, then revise facts, rhythm, emphasis, and wording.
Trying to edit while speaking often destroys the speed advantage. A more productive rhythm is to dictate one coherent unit—a paragraph, scene beat, or section—then switch deliberately into editing mode.
Build a vocabulary for your project
Fictional names, specialist terminology, locations, and unusual capitalization can be difficult for general speech recognition. Create a vocabulary category for the project or import a plain-text glossary with one term per line.
Vocabulary is context rather than a guarantee, so important names still deserve review. Keeping the project list focused and using consistent pronunciation generally produces a more useful signal than collecting every rare word you may ever use.
Keep private drafts on your Mac
Writing can be personal long before it is ready to share. Elokin’s built-in transcription and processing profiles can run with local downloaded models, avoiding a cloud transcription request for each passage.
If you create a custom profile that uses an external AI provider, the transcript may be sent to that provider. Use Raw or another built-in local profile when the draft should remain on your device, and review the privacy policy of every destination where you later paste the text.
Frequently asked questions
Is voice dictation suitable for long-form writing?+
It can be excellent for first drafts, outlines, notes, and passages where momentum matters. Careful revision is still an essential part of long-form writing.
Can I keep my exact spoken wording?+
Yes. Select Raw when you want the transcript without a writing transformation.
Does Elokin store my manuscripts?+
Elokin is not a document editor. It copies the processed text for you to paste into your writing app. Optional history is disabled by default.
